The Pixies are planning a series of ‘mini-releases’ during the next year after unveiling the brand new EP ‘EP-1‘ online this week, reports the New York Times.

The band apparently confirmed the news while in conversation with the publication, as frontman Black Francis explained they feel the need to come up with new material as the ongoing touring which began with their reunion a decade ago continues. “If we’re going to keep touring like this, we need some kind of new story, a new life, something,” he remarked.

Later, the group seemed less bruised by the departure of bassist Kim Deal than the tone of a press release issued at the time appeared to suggest. “I hate to say it, but I’m not going to let one snafu get in the way,” guitarist Joey Santiago said of Deal’s leaving. “It’s time to put on the guitar. It’s time to shine. No one is going to take that away from me.”

“It took us three days to mourn about it,” he concluded.
