Live4ever’s New Tunes Guide – The Best Of September feat. Top Less, Crooked Tongues and more


As another month draws to a close, this week’s New Tunes Guide brings together the best of the cutting edge tracks which Live4ever has presented to you during September. Reacquaint yourself with our carefully selected highlights, and catch up with any hidden gems you might have missed!

A highlight on the September 14th edition, Top Less have an international feel having formed while on holiday in Scotland. They now call Canada home,  and released the quirky  debut album ‘Top Less Gay Love Tekno Party’at the start of this month. A rich sound which pervades the record is in full flow on lead single ‘Danger Love’.

Last week, Leeds based Crooked Tongues led the way with their steam-train-pounding single ‘The Fever’, which is acting as chief support for the band’s new EP ‘Head Rush’ – out on the independent label Black White Records.

“Forming as a band while living overseas in Scotland, Top Less now call Canada home. First single taken of off their debut album is ‘Danger Love’ out now. Their debut album ‘Top Less Gay Love Tekno Party’ was released on 09 September 2013.”

Ill Cassidy hail from Cressex in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. They describe the local atmosphere as ‘The town that brought you a museum of dusty old chairs and nothing else’. Tom Sharman and Nick Ross have been writing songs together for over 7 years. They only casually wrote music for a laugh until on the roof of a house party Nick played Tom a song he had written to his ex girlfriend. Tom quickly added some jokes and the pair agreed that they’d start a band.”

“Leeds based four piece Crooked Tongues present their new EP ‘HeadRush’, along with the video for its lead single ‘The Fever’. Born and raised in Leeds (except London boy Joe), the band is comprised of Tom Dawson (Singer/Guitarist), Joe Ablett (Guitarist/Backing Vocals), Danny Kelly (Bassist/Backing Vocals) and Sam Kelly (Drums/Backing Vocals).”

Death By Sexy announced the release of their new double A-side single ‘Burning Like A Fever / Lady Low’ on September 2nd 2013, available on strictly limited edition 7” vinyl and digital download. Made up of frontman Jimmy Sweet from LA and four Londoners, Charis, Belinda, Sarah and Hazel, Death By Sexy have seen the track being picked to feature on the soundtrack of new British movie ‘The Powder Room’, due out later this year and featuring Jaime Winston, Kate Nash and Sheridan Smith.”

Broken Hands are heading off on a UK tour this month, and to coincide with this they have released a video which was shot at their last sold out show at Sebright Arms. The vid features one of the tracks from their current EP ‘Down By The Current’. The band have appeared at festivals such as Tramlines, Live at Leeds, Lounge on The Farm, Dot 2 Dot and T in The Park.”

Totem & Moshi Moshi released the video for ‘See Saw Girl’, out on the 23rd September on Moshi Moshi Singles Club. The band had upcoming live dates; Thursday 19th September – The Lexington (supporting Crushed Beaks), London, Thursday 26th September – Total Refreshment Centre (Single Launch Party), London.”

“Independent record label Marathon Artists – home to the likes of Jagwar Ma, Real Lies & Childhood – announce the signing of Belfast brother & sister band, Southern. Thom & Lucy Southern, now based in Liverpool, have unveiled their first material for Marathon in the form of new track ‘World Don’t Shine’. ‘World Don’t Shine’ was self-produced by the band. Southern head into the studio this summer/ autumn to begin work on songs for their debut album, due 2014.”

Die Mason Die are the brand new group based around 21-year-old Samuel Mason; Welsh-born, raised in Australia and now residing in London. The band will be releasing their latest single ‘You’re Lonely’ on 9th September. Mason began work on the band’s early material in 2011, during a six month odyssey back to Australia. He joined 11 others on a journey from London to Sydney – aboard a customized 1958 double-decker bus – as part of a cult travel documentary, which is due for release later this year. This early material formed the basis of the ‘Tongues in the Clamp’ EP, released last November.”

“‘Mimic’, the first single to be released from Kilto Take’s forthcoming debut album ‘Resolute’. They have already been main support for bands such as Django Django, LOOM, Theme Park, Man Like Me and The Chapman Family. Their debut album will be released via Medical Records on November 25th 2013.”

Lapland is the moniker for the music of singer/songwriter Josh Mease. Lapland’s debut UK single ‘Unwise’ was released on September 16th.”
