Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan will join up with The Who and Oasis drummer Zak Starkey‘s new outfit Penguinrising when the band performs low-key gigs in Manchester and London next month.

Starkey is moving away from behind the drumkit to take up guitar duties with Penguinrising, and is joined by former Stereophonics sticksman Javier Weyler and frontman Sshh Liguz.

And while Meighan isn’t taking up permanent residence with the group, he will be on board for shows at the This Feeling club night, held at the Queen of Hoxton in London, on October 12th, and Manchester’s FAC251 venue on October 19th.

Meighan is also gearing up to release a new album with Kasabian, whose guitarist Serge Pizzorno told MTV they are looking to find the ‘future sound of rock’ on the follow-up to 2011’s ‘Velociraptor‘.

“I want to put rock ‘n’ roll to the sword – I’m looking for the future sound of rock,” he said. “I love guitars but I wanna destroy guitars as well.”

“Don’t worry, I’m not talking about going on the dubstep wagon. I just want to harness the power of when you go to see The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers or Rage Against The Machine and you leave reborn. When the album turns on you won’t ever want to stop it – that’s what I want.”
