Next week will bring a ‘special announcement’ from Elbow according to a post on the band’s official Facebook page.
Accompanying an in-studio picture (left), Guy Garvey, Mark Potter, Craig Potter, Richard Jupp and Pete Turner urge fans to keep an eye on their newsletter subscriptions next week as they appear to be ready to emerge from a period away from music since a November 2012 UK tour completed the promotional campaign behind the 2011 LP ‘Build a Rocket Boys!‘. Speaking to The Sun not long before that tour, frontman Garvey revealed new songs were already in the pipeline for a sixth studio album.
“We’ve got our arena tour this November and December, which will be like a farewell party,” he said. “We’ve already done six songs for the next album, then we’ll come back to finish it next year. As soon as the tour ends I’m off to New York for six months. Where better to write songs for a King Kong musical than the place it’s set?”
‘Build a Rocket Boys!’ continued the mainstream success Elbow had discovered three years earlier with ‘The Seldom Seen Kid‘, and handed them a career peak of number two on the UK Album Chart upon its release.
