Video: Eccentric MGMT perform on Late Show…with David Letterman

A typically off-the-wall MGMT turned up for an appearance on the Late Show…with David Letterman last night – armed with robes, an over-sized cowbell and a muted audience. Have a watch for yourself below.

The duo aired their new single ‘Your Life Is a Lie‘ for the long running US chat show, which is the first track to preview the third, self-titled studio album, out on September 16th.

Unsurprisingly after a watch of the Letterman performance, speaking earlier this year Ben Goldwasser described the album as being ‘even weirder’ than 2010’s ‘Congratulations‘ after recording sessions at Dave Fridmann’s Tarbox Road Studios in Buffalo, New York.

“We’re not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it,” Goldwasser said, while bandmate Andrew VanWyngarden added that their record label has, “No illusion on their part that we’re going to turn into a Top 40 band. That’s kind of comforting.”

Just as well it seems.
