Stone Roses fans blamed for large increase in Finsbury Park crime levels

Blame for a significant rise in crime around the Finsbury Park area of London during June 2013 has been primarily attributed to the Stone Roses‘ sold out gigs there that month.

The reunited Manchester band played two night at the capital’s outdoor venue on June 7th and 8th this year, continuing a hugely popular reunion tour which began around twelve months earlier.

But with new figures published by local paper the Hackney Gazette showing 195 reported crimes in June compared 20 in May and 16 in April, locals aren’t as enthused with the group’s return as their fans.

“The Finsbury Park ward is the one I remain concerned about,” Paul Convery, Islington Council’s executive member for community safety, remarks. “We have had a dispersal zone in a part of that neighbourhood, but there is a great deal that has happened around Finsbury Park and we are trying to take action.”

“But this rise may well be something to do with the Stone Roses gig. There was a lot of disorder and unpleasant behaviour with people urinating everywhere.”
