Mumford & Sons ‘scared’ of following The Rolling Stones at Glastonbury

Mumford & Sons believe agreeing to headline Glastonbury later this month is the ‘biggest risk they’ve ever taken’.

The group are due to close out the event on June 30th, following the Arctic Monkeys and The Rolling Stones at the tip of the Pyramid Stage’s line-up over the course of the weekend. It’s a daunting prospect, according to Marcus Mumford and bandmate Winston Marshall.

“It’s a really huge deal to headline Glastonbury; we’re a young band with only two records behind us,” Mumford has said in an interview with Time Out. “This summer is probably the biggest risk we’ve ever taken.”

“I’ve seen The Stones play for three hours and the crowd knew every song,” Marshall adds. “It’s what you want in a headline slot at a festival. I’m scared because it feels like a gamble. We don’t know if we’ve earned it yet or not.”

“Once you’re out there, in front of people, I don’t think there’s any choice than to just give it your all. The day we struggle to enjoy what we do and just get the gig over with we’ll quit.”
