Manic Street Preachers bass player Nicky Wire has confirmed the band will perform in London in September as part of BBC Radio 2’s sixth annual Live In Hyde Park one-day festival.

Wire broke the news whilst speaking with Zoe Ball on the station’s breakfast show this morning (June 5th), with the Welsh band joining Jamie Cullum, Texas, Simple Minds and Jack Johnson on September 8th.

“It’s great to have Radio 2 back live in Hyde Park, in the heart of the capital joined by world-famous artists who reflect the breadth and diversity of the network’s output,” the head of music for BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 6Music Jeff Smith has said.

“This year the focus is on getting friends and families together for a summer’s day out full of music and good times.”

Manic Street Preachers are plotting two studio albums for release this year, with work on one acoustic-led record said to be near completion.
