Adrian Belew has become the second musician to withdraw his services from the Nine Inch Nails comeback, which gathered pace this week.

Cited as one of Trent Reznor‘s main inspirations for bringing Nine Inch Nails out of hibernation this year, the King Crimsom man has now announced his surprise departure in a post on Facebook, in which he says things ‘just weren’t working’.

“hey folks, before this goes too far let me say this: I greatly respect trent and the music he makes,” he writes. “no one is at fault. we both agreed it just was not working. I’m sorry to disappoint anyone. that really hurts. but NIN will do an amazing show and I am back where I belong: creating FLUX.”

Bass player Eric Avery has already quit the reunion due to a lack of appetite for another long spell on the road, and was replaced by Robin Finck.

A new album, single and US tour have all been rubber-stamped by Nine Inch Nails during the past few days.
