Parents refusing to let their children join Nick Cave’s choir

“They don’t want their children around words like ‘snatch’,” says Nick Cave, who has told the Independent newspaper it has been tough at times for the Bad Seeds to find willing participants in a choir which has been accompanying the band during live shows this year.

“Sometimes you have to have three or four goes at finding the choir,” he reveals. “They come back going, ‘No, no, no’. There were certain songs they wouldn’t sing. They won’t do ‘Mermaids’, for instance, because of the lyrics.”

“Personally I find that ridiculous, but maybe I’m more liberal with things. Anyway, often people feel it’s inappropriate, and they don’t want their children around words like ‘snatch’.”

Nick Cave could be on the lookout for a new choir when he tours the UK later this year with the Bad Seeds, beginning with two nights at the Hammersmith Apollo in London on October 26th and 27th.

They will then move on to the Manchester Apollo on October 30th, Glasgow Barrowlands on October 31st and finally the Edinburgh Usher Hall on the first day of November.
