Odds slashed on Daft Punk beating Oasis’ UK chart record

The odds on Daft Punk‘s ‘Random Access Memories‘ beating Oasis‘ long standing record for the fastest selling album in UK chart history have been slashed as the French duo’s new LP has reportedly secured over 500,000 pre-sales ahead of its official release on Monday.

Oasis have held the accolade since 1997 when the fever pitch surrounding the band, at the time arguably the biggest in the world, meant over 700,000 copies of their third album ‘Be Here Now‘ flew off the shelves during its first week – that despite the record being released on a Thursday.

With the shift to the digital market since then, and all the changes that has brought, it looked being a record which would never be beaten, but Daft Punk are running it close, and now have odds of 4/5 at Paddy Power on surpassing Oasis.

“They might not have a catchy moniker like the ‘Beliebers’, but fans don’t come much more passionate and excitable than Daft Punk enthusiasts so we’re expecting big things for the French DJs next week,” a spokesman for Paddy Power told Music Week.

“We only hope that the success doesn’t go straight to their helmets.”
