Video: Sigur Rós set ‘Kveikur’ album for release in June, unveil new track

Sigur Ros have announced the details of their new album ‘Kveikur‘, which they plan to release in June.

The band marked the news by unveiling the track ‘Brennisteinn‘ on YouTube (below), which has been produced by the three bandmates Jón Þór Birgisson, Georg Hólm and Orri Páll Dýrason, and directed by Andrew Huang.

A spate of UK shows will follow the album’s release in November, with gigs booked at the Nottingham Arena (19), Brighton Centre (20) and Wembley Arena (21). A gig at the Dublin Arena precedes on November 16th.

‘Kveikur’ will be the first release from Sigur Ros since the departure of long-term keyboard player Kjartan Sveinsson, whose decision to leave was confirmed by the remaining members of the band during a webchat on Reddit in January.

“Yes he has left the band,” they said. “He said he spent half his life in the band and it was time to do something different. He wanted to leave for some time. We have added some extra hands but thats also because we use a lot of instruments on the albums and we can’t play them all at the same time live. We want the live experience to be as good as possible.”
