The xx announce Manchester International Festival residency


The xx will be in Manchester for the city’s annual International Festival next year, it has been confirmed today.

The London band will embark on an eighteen date residency lasting from 4th to 21st July 2013.

According to the Manchester International Festival website they will be, ‘taking over an enigmatic found space in the centre of the city for the whole Festival. Each of these specially staged shows will have a capacity of no more than 100, giving audiences a new relationship with the band’s intimate, atmospheric music’.

Festival director Alex Poots, who brought the likes of  Bjork, Sinead O’Connor and Damon Albarn to the city last year before its break for 2012, has told the BBC:

“We continue to make ambitious and engaged work with some of the world’s greatest artists and thinkers, while taking the festival – and our audiences – in new, unexpected and challenging directions.”

The 2013 event’s full line-up is due to be announced in February.
