A radio play composed primarily by The Flaming Lips and featuring the likes of Grizzly Bear and Okkervil River will air on US radio this coming weekend.

Wayne Coyne’s Human Head-Shaped Tumour is an hour-long play consisting of original material provided by the aforementioned acts as well as The Fiery FurnacesEleanor Friedberger and Bill Callahan, and is due to air on KCRW via successive live broadcasts on November 24th and 25th.

In typical Flaming Lips style, the story revolves around Wayne Coyne developing a human head shaped tumour on his leg, and is described by publishers as ‘something from another time — a continuous-play radio drama in the style of Mercury Theatre’s War of the Worlds, but mixed with contemporary music’.

As well as the radio transmission, the play will also be available online through KCRW’s official website.

The Flaming Lips are currently working on a new album following the ‘…and Heady Fwends‘ collaborative effort which was released earlier this year, initially for the 2012 Record Store Day.
