George Michael has leapt to the defence of Liam Gallagher after the Beady Eye frontman was widely reported to have left one of his recent London gigs early.

The reports suggested Liam had left his seat after around 25 minutes to join bandmate Andy Bell at the bar, with the papers later suggesting his departure was a public shunning of Michael’s performance.

However, the pop star has now taken to refute the claims, stating that Liam merely wanted to escape the attention he was receiving from other gig-goers.

“Please don’t hold it against Liam that he popped off to the bar at Saturday’s show”, Michael has tweeted. “He’s a lovely guy and has always been really friendly to me and very complimentary about my music.”

“He was getting a load hassle from people who spotted him so it’s not surprising he went for for a bevvy.”

George Michael was performing in London as part of a three-night stop in the city, itself a part of the Symphonica Tour.
