Villagers to return with second album in January 2013

Villagers will follow-up their Mercury nominated and Ivor Novello winning debut album ‘Becoming a Jackal‘ in January next year, it has been confirmed.

Due for release on January 14th 2013, ‘{Awayland}‘ has been engineered, produced and mixed by principal Villagers member Conor O’Brien along with guitarist Tommy McLaughlin.

A special fabric hardbook edition of the record will feature a signed CD/DVD combo comprising five intimate live performances.

The new single ‘The Waves‘ was premiered on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show late last month, and will precede the album on October 22nd.

“I was looking up at the sky on a particularly clear night and it struck me that I had never written a song about those little moments when you feel a fundamental and awesome sense of wonder and a simultaneously humbling recognition of absolute insignificance,” O’Brien has said of the single.

Villagers are due to tour the UK and Europe from next month along side Grizzly Bear, beginning on October 17th at The Sage in Gateshead.
