The Stone Roses ‘to release new album next year’

The Stone Roses will release an album of new material sometime next year, if one of The Sun’s endless army of ‘sources’ is to be believed.

When confirming their much-rumoured reunion at a press conference last October, the Manchester band were quick to signal their intention to write a new album, and even suggested fresh tracks could be aired during their comeback tour.

To date however, no new material has been heard as Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni continue their run of headline gigs across Europe this summer. But The Sun claims today that ideas for songs have been passed back and forth for a good while, and are now likely to result in a record being released in 2013.

“John and Ian have been sending each other ideas for over a year now,” the tabloid’s source claims. “During rehearsals they have tried some new songs and really felt that the old magic was still there with the songwriting. They have decided they will give it another spin with new music next year.”

If the rumours comes to fruition, it would be The Stone Roses’ first studio release since 1994’s ‘Second Coming‘.
