Stereophonics have announced plans to release two studio albums over the course of the next 18 months.

After taking a break from touring for the entirety of 2011 to concentrate on writing and recording new material, the Welsh band will follow-up 2009’s ‘Keep Calm and Carry On‘ with LP releases in both 2013 and 2014.

“Last year was the first time in 14 years that we didn’t tour, and it’s meant the new records don’t sound like anything we’ve done before,” frontman Kelly Jones has told the Daily Star newspaper. “We’ve had time to just go into our own studio and mess about, and it’s resulted in a bigger sounding style, very grand and filmic.”

Meanwhile, Stereophonics are due to represent Wales at a special Hyde Park concert on July 27th to celebrate the start of this summer’s London Olympic Games. They will be joined on the bill by fellow British acts Snow Patrol, Paolo Nutini and headliners Duran Duran on July 27th to coincide with the Olympics’ opening ceremony, which will be broadcast on big screens in the park between performances.
