Pete Townshend returns to The Who for huge North American tour

Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend will take their classic rock opera ‘Quadrophenia‘ out on a massive tour of North America beginning this coming November.

The tour announcement, made via a digital press conference yesterday (July 18th), marks Pete Townshend’s return to the live fold with The Who after long-standing health problems forced him to take a break last year, when bandmate Daltrey instead embarked on a series of solo dates.

There had been suggestions Townshend could retire from playing live permanently due to the tinnitus he has suffered with for many years, but the legendary guitarist told yesterday’s press conference his hearing problems will not be an issue on the tour because he is playing ‘controlled’ songs.

“A lot of sailing and things that I do in my spare time is not too good for the hearing so it’s not just being on stage,” he added. “And also my problem is from the studio and not on the stage. I’ve had some trauma created from being on the stage.”

“I don’t actually protect my ears, I don’t go on with ear plugs and I don’t use inner ear monitors either because they give me very bad tinnitus.”

The tour will begin on November 1st at the BankAtlantic Center in Florida, and will run well into 2013 when proceedings are eventually set to be wrapped up at Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Rhode Island on February 26th.
