Andre 3000 to cover The Beatles, Muddy Waters for new Jimi Hendrix biopic

jimihendrixAll Is By My Side, the new Jimi Hendrix biopic starring Andre 3000, will feature covers of the likes of The Beatles and Muddy Waters by the Outkast musician after the estate of Jimi Hendrix denied the film any access to his own back catalogue.

When plans were unveiled for the film, which will focus primarily on Hendrix’s life between 1966 and 1967, Experience Hendrix LLC, the family-owned company which takes care of the late guitarist’s estate, released a statement declaring that it has ‘made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation’.

So instead, producers have now told Rolling Stone Andre 3000, real name Andre Benjamin, will record a selection of tracks covered by Hendrix back in the 1960s, including The Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band‘, ‘Hound Dog‘ and Muddy Waters’ ‘Mannish Boy‘.

All Is By My Side is currently being filmed in Ireland, and will tell the story of Hendrix’s life from his discovery in a New York club by Keith Richards‘ then girlfriend Linda Keith, who subsequently introduced Hendrix to Chas Chandler, to the pair’s subsequent re-location to London where Hendrix recorded his landmark debut album ‘Are You Experienced?‘.

According to reports, the film has been written by John Ridley, who is also acting as director.
