The nominations for this year’s Polaris Music Prize, which aims to find the best Canadian release of the past twelve months, has been unveiled today.

The likes of Drake, Grimes and Feist are some of the leading names on the 2012 shortlist, with ten acts in total competing for the $30,000 prize. Last year, Arcade Fire‘s much-decorated third album ‘The Suburbs‘ came out on top.

“Our jury is showing an ever growing passion and dedication to reviewing, discussing and advocating their selections,” Polaris founder and executive director Steve Jordan has said.

“This has resulted in a Short List of records that are musically focused, intense and in some cases highly personal. The process of selecting a winner should prove to be an invigorating challenge for our Grand Jury.”

The winner will be announced on September 24th.
