Black Sabbath closed the 10th annual Download festival yesterday (June 10th), performing a career-spanning set during the sole surviving gig of their amended European tour.

Sabbath opened the show with the title track from their self-titled debut album, and went on to air a selection of firm fan favourites before finishing with their signature anthem ‘Paranoid‘.

Barring a subsequently arranged warm-up show in Birmingham last month, their Download headline appearance is the only UK gig due this year for Black Sabbath after much of their European comeback tour was postponed following guitarist Tony Iommi‘s cancer diagnosis. During the gig, frontman Ozzy Osbourne found time to pay tribute to his iconic lead guitarist, telling the crowd:

“The guy on the stage I’ve known for most of my life, and he’s one of the strongest guys I know. Let’s hear it for Mr Tony Iommi.”
