New Aerosmith album ‘really close’

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has said the band’s long awaited new album is now ‘really close’.

Aerosmith’s future has been under intense scrutiny since Steven Tyler decided to accept an invitation onto the American Idol judging panel, a move which Joe Perry hinted at the time could have a detrimental affect on their future plans and recording sessions.

However, the principal members have since been insistent on their intention to push on with recording a new album, and Perry has now told Rolling Stone they have reached the mixing stage and also hope to have a new single ready ‘in three or four weeks’.

“It’s really close,” he said. “We’ve started to mix. We’ve mixed a couple of the songs already, but I guess this week we’re really kind of rolling into mix mode. We have a couple of tracks left to finish up, just to put some overdubs on, but we’re kind of going from the final, final recording tracks to mixing this week.”

“The record’s gonna sound modern and hi-fi. We’re not sitting around going, ‘We’re gonna do Night in the Ruts again or Rocks again’. We want to make a modern sounding record, but the main thing is the energy that the early records had.”

The new album – Aerosmith’s 15th studio effort – will be their first since 2004’s ‘Honkin’ On Bobo‘.
