Lou Reed has been added to this summer’s Meltdown festival, which is being curated for 2012 by Antony & The JohnsonsAntony Hegarty.

Lou Reed will play the one-off UK gig at the Royal Festival Hall in London on August 10th, with tickets going on sale from May 31st.

Meltdown will take place in London between August 1st-12th, and will also feature performances from the likes of Marc Almond and Laurie Anderson, while Cocteau TwinsElizabeth Fraser is set for a rare live appearance.

“I dreamed of assembling a constellation of courageous artists, all of whom have used their platforms as cultural producers to challenge us,” Hegarty said when unveiling his initial line-up earlier this month. “They have exhibited a ferocity in their pursuit of beauty, and, falling like a guillotine behind it, justice.”

Since 1993, Meltdown has been curated by a variety of established musical stars such as Elvis Costello, John Peel and David Bowie, and last year had its line-up handpicked by The KinksRay Davies.
