First part of John Peel’s record collection goes online

The first 100 albums of John Peel‘s legendary record collection have been released today as ‘The Space’ – which is being run by The John Peel Centre in Stowmarket – begins its aim to recreate the late DJ’s entire library online.

2,600 albums in total are set to be launched online, the first round of which includes the likes of ABBA, Adam & The Ants and AC/DC. From now on, each week the museum will expand by adding the names of another 100 albums in alphabetical order.

“It is the first step in creating an interactive online museum with access to the entire collection, one of the most important archives in modern music history,” Tom Barker, director of the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts said when announcing the project in February.

“The idea is to digitally recreate John’s home studio and record collection, which users will be able to interact with and contribute to, while viewing Peel’s personal notes, archive performances and new filmed interviews with musicians,” Frank Prendergast of Eye Film And Television added.
