The Black Keys were joined onstage by John Fogerty at Coachella over the weekend to pay tribute to Levon Helm.
The Black Keys and Fogerty aired a cover of The Band‘s classic song ‘The Weight‘ in memory of Helm, who passed away last week after a long battle with cancer. Fan footage of the performance has emerged online, and can be viewed below.
Levon Helm’s death was announced by his family on April 19th, when they released a short statement via Facebook and Twitter which read: “Levon Helm passed peacefully this afternoon. He was surrounded by family, friends and band mates and will be remembered by all he touched as a brilliant musician and a beautiful soul.”
Written by Robbie Robertson and released in June 1968, ‘The Weight’ formed a part of The Band’s classic debut album ‘Music From Big Pink‘, and is now widely considered as one of the seminal tracks of the decade.
