Latest Smiths reunion rumours denied

New rumours emerging today (April 26th) suggesting The Smiths are ready to reform have apparently been quickly shot down by what NME describe as ‘highly placed sources within the live music industry’.

Earlier today, Music-News.com claimed a source had told them Morrissey and Johnny Marr – inspired by the reformation of The Stone Roses – had decided to perform live together this autumn, and had held ‘conversations with a well-known promoter’ with the possibility of their fellow former Smiths bandmates Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce also being involved.

However, NME has claimed to have received a denial from within the music industry, writing on Twitter: “There’s no truth to the Smiths reunion rumours. A highly-placed source in Britain’s live music industry, along with others close to the band, denied the rumours when contacted by NME.”

The Smiths split in 1987 when Johnny Marr ended his association with the band, and have since been the subject of seemingly constant speculation surrounding their future plans. With the current trend for band reformations, they remain one of the biggest and most sought-after acts to so far resist the temptation of a big money return.
