The Flaming Lips want Yoko Ono’s blood for Record Store Day

Never one to do things by halves, Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne has revealed his own plans for Record Store Day include trying to collect a sample of blood from each of his collaborators to use in the packaging.

With The Flaming Lips becoming the latest band to announce their own plans for this year’s Record Store Day initiative – which this time round is seeing more acts than ever confirming special releases in support of independent record shops – the band have unveiled hook ups with the likes of Yoko Ono, Bon Iver and Nick Cave.

And, when speaking to MTV Hive, Wayne Coyne has said he is now attempting to collect blood from his collaborators to ‘put in the middle of the records’.

“What I’m going to try to do — and I’m collecting stuff for it as we speak — is I’m going to try to make a record that has every person’s blood in the record,” he said.

“I don’t have everybody’s blood just yet, but I collected quite a few vials of blood and it’s actually sitting in my refrigerator as we speak. I’m going to try to take that same concept and put little bits of everybody’s blood in the middle of this record. Like a glass specimen thing.”
