The Beatles‘ 1968 animated feature Yellow Submarine will be re-released on DVD and Blu-Ray this coming May after being digitally remastered by Triage Motion Picture Services and Eque Inc.

The film, which has been unavailable for years having gone out of print, has received a complete restoration, and will come with added audio commentaries and a making of documentary. It will be released on May 28th, and will also be available with the re-packaged soundtrack.

The George Dunning directed film sees the four Beatles providing the voices to the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, who are forced to defend their land from an attack by the music-hating Blue Meanies. It was another hit for the Fab Four, and received a warm critical response at the time.

Ahead of the CD and DVD release, a new book of the screenplay will be published on April 24th by Candlewick Press, which is said to showcase ‘the light-hearted wit of the film’s script alongside original artwork from the movie’.
