David Bowie’s ‘Ziggy Stardust’ cover to be honoured

ZiggyStardustThe now-famous location featured on the cover of David Bowie‘s seminal 1972 album ‘The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars‘ is to be honoured with its own commemorative plaque to mark the LP’s 40th anniversary.

The cover shows David Bowie posing outside the premises of ‘K. West’ on Heddon Street in Central London, which at the time was home to the studio of photographer Brian Ward, who had been enlisted to hold a photo session with Bowie and his band.

On the night in question, following a series of snaps indoors, the party was asked to move outside but, due to it being early January at the time, only Bowie himself was prepared to take Ward up on his suggestion, jumpsuit and all. The rest, as they say, is history.

The plaque will be unveiled by the Crown Estate on March 27th, just a few months shy of the legendary record’s 40th year.
