Foo Fighters dominated the rock section of the Grammy Awards last night (February 12th) as the ceremony paid to tribute to Whitney Houston, who died on the eve of the event.
The US band won five Grammys in total, including Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance and Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance, as their album ‘Wasting Light‘ triumphed in the genre.
“This is a great honour because this record was a special record for our band,” frontman Dave Grohl told the audience. “Rather than go to the best studio, we made this one in my garage with some microphones and a tape machine. It shows that the human element of making music is what’s most important.”
Adele, who made her live return at the ceremony following throat surgery, was the big winner in the major categories, landing six gongs after coming out on top in every shortlist she was nominated in. The British singer picked up prizes including Record Of The Year and Best Short Form Music Video for ‘Rolling In The Deep‘, while the trans-Atlantic smash ‘21‘ won Album Of The Year.
Previous multi-Grammy winner Whitney Houston was never far from people’s thoughts after passing away in a Los Angeles hotel room in the early hours of Saturday morning (February 11th).
Host LL Cool J said there ‘is no way around this, we’ve had a death in our family’, while the likes of Bruno Mars, Stevie Wonder and Jennifer Hudson also paid their respects to the late singer.
Paul McCartney closed the ceremony with a few of his guitar slinging buddies on stage.
