Cast’s John Power believes music is ‘too middle class’

Today’s music is too middle class and lacks the intensity offered by old school working class bands, that’s according to Cast frontman John Power.

“I think it’s missing a bit of bite, and whether that will come back because of the economic time, what’s going on, people are feeling the pinch,” Power told Absolute Radio of new music.

“Just seems like there’s too many comfortable people in comfortable positions doing music, it’s a bit too comfortable. I’ve been in two very great bands, The La’s and Cast, and I’ve been around for 20-odd years musically, but I certainly think the journalism, the journalists, the music, it just seems a bit, it’s top-heavy, middle-class.”

“This isn’t a class war thing, but I just wonder if it’s missing a little bit of spite and spit and hopelessness, when you’ve got nothing and all you’ve got is this thing that you’re going to make it work, you know, a bit of venom.”

“But I think you’ve only got to look around and see the world, in the papers, on the TV, out your window, there’s certainly things going down which are abrasive, emotionally and economically.”

“I just hope from that you’ll get some sort of movement that will kind of just kick, give it a kick up the bottom shall we say.”

The recently reformed Cast released their comeback album ‘Troubled Times‘ earlier this month.
