Babyshambles will tour without Pete Doherty

Babyshambles bassist Drew McConnell has said the band are likely to tour this year without Pete Doherty.

As one of the mainstays of an almost constantly changing Babyshambles line-up, McConnell has been on board for both of the band’s studio albums – 2005’s ‘Down In Albion‘ and 2007’s ‘Shotter’s Nation‘ – and is now ready to get back out on the road, but has said their enigmatic frontman is likely to only be present as a spectator.

“If he’s in town, I’m sure he’d love to come out,” McConnell told NME. “But he’s in Paris at the moment nurturing his burgeoning career as an actor and, as far as I’m concerned, hopefully writing some new songs.”

Meanwhile, when pressed on the future of the band, McConnell admitted he has learnt over the years to not commit to any subsequent plans. “You know what, people have been asking me that since 2004 and I always have the same answer,” he said.

“It’s not the band where you can make plans. It’s a very volatile and unpredictable band to be in.”
