The incredible breakthrough success of British singer Adele has been confirmed today with the news her two studio albums to date are the biggest selling in the UK of 2011, while Coldplay have further cemented their status as the most commercially successful guitar band of the day.

Unsurprisingly, Adele’s ‘21‘ is the biggest seller of the year by a large margin, shifting 3.4m copies during 2011 – a figure many previously thought now impossible in the new digital age. Her debut ‘19‘ is in second place with 1.1m units shifted.

Meanwhile, Coldplay are at #10, with ‘Mylo Xyloto‘ having sold close to half a million copies since its release last October.
