Echo & The Bunnymen leader Ian McCulloch has apologised to fans after storming off stage for a short time during a gig in Glasgow earlier this week.

According to reports, McCulloch had been grumbling about his crowd’s lack of timing, and also threatened hecklers, before finally abandoning the stage.

McCulloch later returned and apologised to fans, saying he had received ‘bad news’. And now, in an interview with the Daily Record newspaper, the singer has further elaborated on the issues which clouded their Glasgow outing.

“There were things which happened backstage that should have stayed backstage, but didn’t,” he explained. “I was very upset due to personal issues I can’t go into. What went on backstage made it worse and it got too much.”

“It spilled on stage and I can only apologise. I am gutted and feel terrible for letting down our amazing Scottish fans.”

“I hugely regret it and want to say sorry to everyone we disappointed. I hope we can make it up to you all in some way and we will look at how to do that in the near future.”

Echo & The Bunnymen’s current UK tour will close tonight (September 30th) with a hometown gig at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
