Video: The Flaming Lips’ Stage Collapses During Storm

The Flaming Lips narrowly avoided disaster last weekend when part of their stage production collapsed during heavy storms in Tulsa, OK.

The Flaming Lips were performing at the Brady Block Party when the weather took a turn for the worse, prompting their crew to cover the equipment in a bid to preserve any damage.

But when a stronger gust of wind swept through the arena, the band’s video projection screen took a dramatic tumble.

“We were all on stage thinking, ‘What are we actually going to do here?’ Then the screen started moving,” bassist Michael Ivins told Rolling Stone. “There wasn’t a lot of space between the screen and an eight-foot drop. I basically had to leap over one of the screen legs to get out of the way. It was definitely pretty crazy.”

Watch the video below which shows the stage already being subjected to strong gusts before the video rig collapses.
