Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has said he ‘doesn’t mind’ his band being compared to Oasis when the US fortunes of the respective bands are weighed up.

Since their explosion onto the UK’s music scene towards the end of 2005, Arctic Monkeys have grown into one of the country’s biggest bands, but as yet have struggled to replicate that success in America in the same way the likes of Coldplay and Radiohead have managed.

The situation has led to comparisons being made with Oasis who, while being Britain’s biggest band for well over a decade, are largely portrayed as failures State-side, this despite comfortably selling out legendary venues such as Madison Square Garden and Hollywood Bowl.

“Not really, I mean, it’s like we’re both a British rock and roll band, we’re kind of bound to get compared to Oasis in other countries,” said Turner when asked about the US similarities.

“We are both from the North, similar haircut. But musically, it is a little bit different. I mean, we are huge fans of them, growing up and all that, they were a really important band for us. I don’t mind being compared to Oasis at all.”

Arctic Monkeys released their fourth studio album, ‘Suck It and See‘ on Monday. Read Live4ever’s review here.
