Keith Richards Wants New Rolling Stones Tour To Mark 50th Anniversary

Keith Richards has re-affirmed his desire to get The Rolling Stones back out on the road next year to celebrate their 50th anniversary, but has once again hinted frontman Mick Jagger is proving to be a stumbling block.

Quoted by USA Today, Richards remarks: “Something’s blowing in the wind. The idea’s there. We kind of know we should do it, but nobody’s put their finger on the moment yet.”

“This is what we have to ask each other, ‘Do we want to go out in a blaze of glory?’ We can, if Mick and Charlie feel like I do, that we can still turn people on. We don’t have to prove nothing anymore. I just love playing, and I miss the crowd.”

Richards also shone further light on the friction caused by comments he made in his recent autobiography, in which he discusses candidly the break down of their relationship over the years, which had seemed to have brought an end to the group in the 1980s. Despite their eventual, and continued, rehabilitation, the pair continue to employ a love-hate relationship.

“Mick pouted a bit, as is his wont,” he said of a New York meeting. “I told him, ‘It’s water under the bridge’. I want to talk about the future.”

“We’re larger than a little bitching here and there. It’s only rock and roll. I love working with Mick. Maybe that friction that makes it work, that bit of sand in the oyster that makes the pearl.”

While a new Rolling Stones tour and album might not be immediately on Mick Jagger’s agenda, a new supergroup could be, with rumours circulating of a fresh project being initiated with Dave Stewart and Joss Stone.
