Elbow Booked To Play Glastonbury?

Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has given a strong hint his band are due to appear at Glastonbury during an interview with BBC Newsbeat.

While discussing the recent confirmation of popstar Beyonce‘s booking at this year’s event, Garvey stopped short of giving a firm answer, but did say: “I’m not sure what I’m allowed to tell you and what I’m not. We are definitely going to be playing some festivals in the UK. All the best ones, let’s put it that way.”

On Beyonce, Garvey urged festival-goers to trust the organisers, pointing to the widespread controversy and criticism which was sparked when Jay-Z headlined the Pyramid Stage in 2008, a performance which was an undoubted success.

“Glastonbury is the best festival in the world year on year and they know what they are doing,” he said. “If they chose Beyonce to close it’s because they know it’ll be a fantastic finish. There was lots of controversy when Jay-Z was invited to play but what a hit that was.

That was the fullest that the Pyramid Stage had ever seen that field. Let them choose what goes on. They’ve got more experience than anyone else on earth and it’ll be fantastic like it always is.”

Elbow will release new album ‘Build a Rocket Boys!‘ on March 7th.
