Blues duo The Black Keys have pulled the plug on a planned tour of Australia and New Zealand, citing a hectic 2010 touring schedule as a reason for their decision.

In a post on the band’s official website, members Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney are described as ‘drained’, and have apologised to fans who had already booked tickets for their southern hemisphere tour, while a European jaunt due to begin in March has also been affected.

“The Black Keys are sorry to announce the cancellation of the New Zealand and Australian tour including all appearances at the Big Day Out touring festival as well as a portion of the European tour in March,” the statement reads.

“An arduous year of touring and promotion has drained the band and necessitated time off. Dan and Patrick wish to thank all of you who have shown such incredible support since the release of ‘Brothers’ and have helped make the album a success.”

The tour, arranged in support of recent album ‘Brothers‘, was due to kick off in Wellington, New Zealand on January 20th.
