Coldplay Still Looking To Achieve Their ‘Masterpiece’

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has revealed the band are still striving to produce their ‘masterpiece’ as they gear up for the release of their fifth studio album this year.

Speaking to NME, Martin explained how Coldplay will continue pushing themselves in the studio until they believe the best has been achieved. “We still don’t think we’ve delivered our masterpiece, so we’re still trying to do it,” he said. “As long as we feel like that and we’re hungry, that’s all that matters.”

For previous album ‘Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends‘, Coldplay called upon the services of veteran producer Brian Eno, resulting in a more expansive, if not overly-experimental release.

Eno has once again played a prominent role during the new recording sessions, while Martin explained how the influence of Markus Dravs, who also worked with the band in the past, helped to keep the album as cohesive as possible.

“We were with Brian Eno for a long period just messing around,” Martin explained. “Now we’re with Marcus, trying to turn that into something cohesive and under seven hours long. The worst mistake we could make, when we’re the most Marmite-y of bands, would be to make a super-long thing.”

The first announcement of an expected hectic 2011 for Coldplay has already been confirmed, with Martin and co due to appear at Germany’s Rock AM Ring festival this summer.
