The Cure have been confirmed as the first headliners at next year’s annual Bestival event on the Isle Of Wight.
Due to take place at Robin Hill Country Park between September 8th-11th, Robert Smith and co will be joined by Primal Scream, performing another of their series of ‘Screamadelica‘ gigs, and former Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson.
Speaking of the booking, Bestival organiser Rob Da Bank spoke of his delight at securing The Cure for his event. “I’ve spent the last 20 years of my life listening to the Cure and the last five attempting to persuade Robert Smith and the crew to hop on a ferry to our magical Isle,” he said.
“I’m still not sure what we’ve done right but I’m overjoyed that they are coming as Saturday night headliners. Few bands have had such a massive impact on my life (and hairstyles) so I’ll see you down the front!”
While Robert Smith was also quick to declare his own joy at his band’s headline spot: “I am delighted and excited that The Cure’s only European festival performance in 2011 will be at Bestival. We will do all we can to help make it a weekender to remember!”
Other acts confirmed for the always eclectic Bestival line-up include Crystal Castles, DJ Shadow and Grandmaster Flash, with more acts due to be announced shortly.
