After working with the former Kinks man on his new covers album ‘See My Friends‘, it appears Mumford & Sons had Ray Davies fondly reminiscing of his own early career, with Davies telling the UK’s XFM radio station he sees similarities between the two bands.

In an interview with XFM‘s John Kennedy, Davies spoke of a ‘weird light’ which he believes surrounds successful bands. “It reminded me very much of what it was like being in a band starting out.” he said. “They are on a great roll at the moment as you hear on the track. That’s what it was like with The Kinks when we started out doing single after single. You get this weird light around you that makes you work in a certain way.”

Mumford & Sons worked with Ray Davies on ‘Days/This Time Tomorrow‘, while the new album also features contributions from artists such as Metallica, Gary Lightbody and Bruce Springsteen. Later, Davies explained how the project was realised in no small part thanks to the enthusiasm of these collaborators. “The idea of doing the record never really kicked in until I did a show with Metallica at Madison Square Gardens last year,” he explained.

“They backed me on ‘You Really Got Me‘, then I met Bruce Springsteen backstage who said he’d heard about these recordings I was doing and he wanted to get involved.”

See My Friends‘ was released in the Britain last week, and debuted in the top 20 of the UK Album Chart.
