As progress continues on their eagerly awaited follow up 2009’s ‘West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum‘, Leicester rockers Kasabian have been giving the recent edition of Q Magazine an update on the direction the new record is taking.
Frontman Tom Meighan and guitarist Serge Pizzorno have described a ‘melodic’ sounding record, and stated one track sounds ‘a bit like the Jackson 5‘.
“There’s a lot of soul in it,” Meighan explained. “It’s the most melodic record we’ve ever done. There’s all sorts of things on there. Dare I say there’s a tune which sounds a bit like the Jackson 5?”
Serge Pizzorno added that fans may be surprised by the emerging make-up of their new material, which he has said is ‘cheeky’: “There’s going to be a couple of things on the album that, like ‘Emotional Rescue‘ by the Rolling Stones, are just something that’s just a bit cheeky. It won’t sound old or disco or anything, it’ll just be really fucking cheeky, so people go, ‘what the fuck’s going on here? I wasn’t expecting that.'”
Plans for Kasabian’s 2011 are already falling into place, with a spot at next year’s Isle Of Wight festival due in June, while the new record is reported to be scheduled for release later in 2011.
