Florence & The Machine: Our New Single Is Strange

Florence & The Machine leader Florence Welch has described her new single as ‘strange’ as she prepares for the re-release of her huge-selling debut album ‘Lungs‘.

The new single, ‘Heavy In Your Arms‘, has featured on the recent Twilight soundtrack, and is being issued to mark a new special edition of her debut which will be titled ‘Between Two Lungs‘. “‘Heavy In Your Arms‘ I suppose is about the weight of love, and how sometimes it can be a burden between two people,” she said in a press release.

“I felt this was a strong theme in the Twilight series – is someone being rescued or are they being condemned, and is the love you carry bringing you down? I recorded it with Paul one evening, using a lot of strange reversed vocal samples and big hip hop piano. It’s basically inspired by 90’s hip hop and gospel choirs, like most of my songs.”

The new single will be the eighth, yes that’s eighth, to be taken from ‘Lungs‘, who’s re-issue features new artwork and a new ten track disc, which includes a live recording of new song ‘Strangeness & Charm‘, the Dizzee Rascal collaboration of ‘You Got The Love‘ which was first aired at this year’s Brit Awards, and a previously unreleased Yeasayer remix of ‘Dog Days Are Over‘.

The single and re-issue are due for release on November 15th.
