Review: Sons of Albion @ Crash Mansion, NYC

Dark and edgy London-based Sons of Albion have finally landed in NYC, ready to turn up the flames on the New York music scene. On Tuesday, October 5, 2010, they hit the Village hot-spot Crash Mansion, a multi-tiered venue with the main stage located in the basement. There was an art exhibit set up near the stage, with artists ready to draw bands as they rocked out. SoA started promptly at 7:30pm, which was a bit too early for a group this fiery. New Yorkers don’t even get going until about 9:00pm. However, because this was their first gig in the Big Apple this trip, it was a great opportunity for them to warm-up and get ready to tackle the city.

Frontman Logan Plant and his cohorts in hard rock, Nuno Miguel, Francisco, and Gones, hit the stage of the cavern-like setting and took no prisoners with their intense, heavy brand of rock. They started off with “Blackened Heart,” their latest single release, Logan’s vocals powerful and concentrated. As the crowd filtered in, Logan seemed to get more comfortable with the mic. The rest of the band was completely in the zone, focused on scorching the stage with their blazing riffs and rhythms. They rocked the house with a handful of songs, including “I Feel You,” “Take a Look,” and “Castles in the Sky.” Logan has great confidence on stage, the band sonic and cohesive. The lads have five more dates to play in the city that never sleeps, this performance just an appetizer. Their album comes out in 2011 and, judging by this performance, catch them now if you can because by next year it could hard to get a ticket!
