Singer-songwriter Dev Hynes, better known as Lightspeed Champion, will release a new four-track EP in December featuring a cover of a Beach Boys track which has been produced by the legendary band’s former cohort Van Dyke Parks, who worked with them during their hugely creative late-Sixties period.
Lightspeed Champion has re-worked The Beach Boys’ 1971 track ‘Til I Die‘, and spoke of the ‘surreal’ experience of working on one of the group’s tracks with their former producer. “It was pretty surreal, he’s someone I’ve listened to for what seems like forever,” he said.
“I found myself listening to the stems and works in progress as a fan of him, then I’d remember that it’s something we’re working on together, then I’d freak out. Then I’d have a drink and I’d feel fine.”
Entitled ‘Bye Bye‘, The new EP will feature three other previously unreleased tracks and will be released on 10-inch vinyl and download formats on December 13th. The EP follows the release of Lightspeed Champion’s second studio album ‘Life Is Sweet! Nice To Meet You‘ which was issued through Domino Records in the February of this year.
