A new documentary chronicling the time spent by John Lennon in New York is to air in the US in November and will feature previously unheard material from the former Beatles legend.

Entitled ‘LENNONYC‘, the film will tell the story of Lennon’s life in New York after he moved to Greenwich Village in 1971, until his untimely death in 1980. The documentary received it’s premiere at the recent New York Film Festival, and is now set for an airing on the US’ PBS network on November 22nd, while a free screening on October 9th, Lennon’s birthday, will take place in Central Park.

Speaking at the first screening of the film, director Michael Epstein outlined the themes he wanted to highlight in the documentary. “John’s is an immigrant story,” he said. “We don’t share a common past. What we share is a common vision for the future, at our best. It’s in that quiet, domestic place where he builds his own family that he finds his redemption.”

John Lennon left the UK for New York with Yoko Ono in August 1971 and never returned to his homeland. He was shot dead outside the Dakota building in the city on December 8th, 1980.
