Arcade Fire’s successful return has continued today after it was announced they have earned three nominations for this year’s Q Awards.
The Canadian band have been nominated in the marquee categories Best Album and Best Act In The World Today, with the promo for their track ‘We Used To Wait‘ also receiving a nomination in the Best Video section.
Arcade Fire’s third album ‘The Suburbs‘ will face stiff competition for the Best Album award, with Paul Weller’s Mercury-nominated record ‘Wake Up The Nation‘ joining the battle along with The National’s brilliant ‘High Violet‘, Gorillaz ‘Plastic Beach‘, and ‘The Defamation Of Strickland Banks‘ by Plan B, who has matched Arcade Fire’s haul of three nominations.
Muse, Kings Of Leon, Kasabian and Green Day are also nominated for Best Act In The World Today, and Paul Weller’s successful year is recognised with two nominations, with a nod in the Best Male section going with his Best Album mention.
Discussing this year’s shortlist, Q’s Editor-In-Chief Paul Rees said the nominees are representative of a strong 12 months in the music world: “This year more than ever, the Q Awards is honouring the people who’ve made the music that has mattered most in the past 12 months, as well as celebrating our musical icons.
There are more voted-for awards than ever too, emphasising that the Q Awards, uniquely, are the people’s choice. I’m delighted to say that the quality and variety of the acts nominated this year testifies strongly to the fact that music right now is as vibrant and exciting as it’s ever been.”
This year’s awards will be held at London’s Grosvenor House on October 25th and is set to be hosted by comedian Al Murray. Fans can vote at qthemusic.com.
