Casablancas: New Strokes Album in January

In an interview with Clashmusic Strokes‘ front man Julian Casablancas has revealed  that he believes the New Yorkers will release a new album in January.

The group has been inactive since 2006 with members involved in several side projects. Just recently Julian released his debut solo album to much critical praise. He predicted in the interview: “I think January. I was told not to predict anymore. But I’m pretty sure it should be out in January” he said.

Although several members now chose Los Angeles as their home, the group decided to record the new tracks back in the Big Apple. Casablancas added:”For me, there’s something about recording in New York – I was just thinking about it literally yesterday for the first time, in terms of if I could have a choice.”

“Because everywhere I’ve ever recorded has kinda been like a logical choice or out of necessity. But there’s something about recording in a nice studio in New York. Maybe it’s just because it’s expensive, I dunno. Recording in LA is nice though” he added.

The band put aside any artistic differences they had in the past: “I think time helped and more communication helped,” he explained. “We’ll see; it’s like ‘to be continued’. We’ll see if things are okay with the band when we’re on tour. When we’re not on tour, everyone’s super nice and chilled and it’s all great. It’s just when you go on tour that things get weird.”

The Strokes are set to appear at this year’s Isle Of Wight festival on June 12, then RockNess in Scotland on June 13. Julian wasn’t sure if they would showcase any new material at those events but thought they would “play at least one new song”.
